New hotel in a central London Conservation Area
A new 73-bedroom hotel in a central London Conservation Area. Carlisle Street was laid out in 1685 and was unsympathetically redeveloped in the 1960s. ADAM Architecture was commissioned to create a new design that reflects the appearance and character of this historic part of Soho. The building will be a new ‘base2stay’ Hotel, the third in a series of pioneering British hotels. The new elevation facing along Carlisle Street contains a double height, Doric entrance front, with two plainer rusticated floors and a simple pedimented top storey above. Walls are natural stone, with coloured bronze windows and doors. The remainder of the elevation is constructed in yellow London stock brick. A specially commissioned bronze statue of the god Hypnos by Alexander Stoddart, will close the important historic vista from Soho Square.
