Design Brief for the Oval Cricket Ground
This project involves the redevelopment of the Surrey Tavern as part of the continued regeneration of the Oval area. The design includes a new stand adjacent to the pavilion and a new hotel providing much needed facilities, produced in conjunction with the freeholder of the site, the Duchy of Cornwall. The replacement of the Tavern building, presents the opportunity to significantly enhance the approach to this important sports venue, improving the relationship with the pavilion and the adjoining urban fabric. The Design Code document establishes the guidelines for the masterplanning, design and construction of the new buildings, ensuring that any development is genuinely sustainable, and rooted in an appreciation of the distinctive character of the area and the traditions of the club.
