Historic village extension, Hertfordshire
This development provides 183 new homes on a neglected industrial site that was out of character with the surrounding neighbourhood. The masterplan at Frogmore contains six different character areas, each designed to create a clear local identity and a variety of open spaces. Lines of two storey buildings at the boundaries continue the historic Watling Street that runs parallel and the entrance is framed by a pair of lodges that echo the style of the almshouses opposite. The new Church Green reinstates the setting of the listed Holy Trinity Church and reintroduces it as a focal point to the village. The Square represents the heart of the new village area with an informal, close-knit character. All dwellings follow the scale, form and traditional character of the area, providing much needed affordable accommodation.
