RESEARCH
SCHOLARSHIP
The annual Robert Adam Architects Travel Scholarship offers an opportunity for an architecture student to experience and develop a greater understanding of architecture and urban design.
Funding is awarded to the chosen student to cover travel, accommodation and research material for an educational journey with a specific architectural purpose. An opportunity is provided for the chosen scholar to present their research at a widely publicised lecture before a distinguished audience.
Emily Penn, one of last year’s two scholars, traveled across Asia by train from St. Petersburg to Shanghai, via Moscow, Ulaanbaatar and Beijing. Her aim was to compare the environmental aspects of tradition vernacular architecture with the new sustainable architecture to provide ideas for the architecture of the future.
Paige Johnson’s search for the Art Deco landscape took her to France, Belgium and across England. Her research revealed the existence of this little known landscape style and its importance as a vibrant and influential part of culture and design in the early-twentieth century.
For more details of the award and how to apply, please contact Sue Beaumont at sue.beaumont@robertadamarchitects.com.
