New buildings at Poundbury South West Quadrant, Dorset
The South West Quadrant provides around two hundred residential units within Poundbury, the Duchy of Cornwall’s experimental town to the west of Dorchester. The design includes a number of different building types including offices, apartments and terraced and detached houses, all inspired by the architecture of the Regency period. The Duchy has appointed a group of architects including George Saumarez Smith of ADAM Architecture, and by working together, this team provides a coherent strategy for the new streets and a greater level of harmony between the buildings. Simple detailing has produced elegant buildings constructed and finished to a high quality.
