Urban extension to Midsomer Norton in Somerset
Thicket Mead, commissioned by the Duchy of Cornwall, contains 110 houses on a fourteen-acre site at the edge of Midsomer Norton, Somerset. The new homes are grouped around traditional village greens and a central public building with an overall density of ten houses per acre. Terraced houses predominate, all of which are carefully detailed and constructed using materials that harmonise with the local vernacular. The development is an aesthetic model for the design of new rural estates, successfully balancing cost effectiveness with commercial viability and attractive, high quality design.
