Miniature Baroque mansion, East Sussex
With close collaboration with the client a finely detailed miniature mansion was created, reminiscent of the classical architecture of the late-seventeenth century. The white painted farmhouse was reclad in bricks and a new colonnaded entrance front was created, flanked by two narrow domed turrets. The rear facade, glimpsed through trees from the road, contains a small clock tower. Behind the front elevation, a double height hall with balconies completes the drama of the entering the house. The design replaces an existing planning consent for a larger, conventional addition and uses high quality materials and finishes. This distinctive new building adds to the character of the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and demonstrates that a more unusual approach can yield exciting architectural results.
