Poundbury (South West Quadrant), Dorset
The South West Quadrant of Poundbury, on the outskirts of Dorchester on land owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, has 229 residential units and offices on a 4.8 hectare site. The apartments, terraced and detached houses are inspired by Regency architecture. Working closely with the masterplanner Leon Krier, the co-ordinating designer Ben Pentreath, the Duchy of Cornwall and the two housebuilders, a coherent strategy for the new streets and a greater level of harmony between the buildings was produced. Simple detailing has produced elegant buildings constructed and finished to a high quality.
