Village extension to Whiteley, Surrey
A twenty-five year masterplan designed for Whiteley, an Edwardian self-contained retirement village in Walton-on-Thames. The site has provided housing for the elderly since the First World War, designed by some of the most prominent Arts & Crafts architects in the early twentieth century. The scheme includes the refurbishment and extension of 260 Grade II Listed cottages and a new sheltered housing building. This social and architectural context makes Whiteley an important example of early twentieth century architecture and planning. High quality materials and detailing ensure that the historic character of the site is maintained, creating a logical and sustainable solution for the village's long-term needs.
